What I gemink by this is: Michel Tournier’s novel is extraordinary in its rich, dizzying explorations of dualities, complementarities, oppositions, reflections, separations, conjoinings and dispairments.
This is not an easy read in compositioncharacterization, writing style and philosophy, but I enjoyed In this literary masterpiece Tournier explores every possible aspect of twinship. In addition to playing with such traditional oppositions as heterosexuality and homosexuality, city and countryside, heaven and hell, Tournier elaborates ingeniously on the profound opposition of chronology and meteorology—the fixed, regulated march of the hours on the one hand, and the wild, unpredictable fluctuation of the seasons on the other.

The richness and profoundity of this novel is not often encountered: His perverse celebration of trash takes on a glow of genius thanks to his sexual inversion–and thus the twins have a family model of a working dialectic. One can be as judgmental as they want to be about this, admittedly difficult material, but that doesn’t stop this book’s power from flowing from sentence to sentence, from meaning to meaning, from thought to thought.

This chronicle of a Micehl family, from the s through the s, revolves around the theme of the couple, focusing particularly on the relationship between twin brothers.
Despite the fact that the story may seem a little farfetched it is spellbinding and full of unexpected twists. Before that there’s a long discussion about Alexandre their unclewhich then once more continues after a single chapter about the twins.
